Active/Inactive

"active" domains are any which show up in the From header of messages, such as reported by DMARC reporters. Here are some examples of active domains in the case of dmarcian: dmarcian.com, support.dmarcian.com, salesforce.dmarcian.com.  Examples of inactive domains could be www.dmarcian.com (it's a website, that domain should never appear in From headers), or dmartian.com (note the 't' in there, rather than 'c' - it's a defensively registered domain)

Why is a domain showing up as inactive in the dmarcian interface?  A domain is assessed as "active" only if there has been "DMARC-Capable" traffic reported for it in the past 7 days.
If you do not have reporting sent to dmarcian, the domain will be assessed as inactive.
If your domain traffic is very low, and/or just being sent to entities which do not report DMARC data, the domain will be assessed as inactive. Check the last 7 days of reporters we have seen, to see who participates in DMARC.  If your service does not appear, ask them to participate in DMARC.
If none of the traffic sent on behalf of the domain passes authentication, it may be that we cannot assess the domain as active, so it will remain inactive. Improve authentication and then check after a few more days. Only domains with messages appearing under DMARC-Capable in the Detail Viewer are 'active'.
