Change account owner

Changing the account owner: there are 5 approaches to do this; without extra verification steps dmarcian staff cannot perform this action (see the last options below).

Guidelines for a new address:

  • Any email address used for a user MUST be usable, and should not normally autorespond (e.g. a ticketing system).  In other words, email sent to that address must not bounce, and must not trigger automatic 'we have received your message' responses or similar to each message sent from dmarcian.
  • In general you need to be able to author messages From the new address, particularly in order to request support or feedback on data in the platform.

Approaches for updating the owner:

  1. Easiest would be if you already have access to log in as the current owner (or have that person around still), and can change the owner from within the Preferences of the dmarcian application.
  2. If you have access to the mailbox for the current owner, such as if that person is no longer at the company, you can issue a password reset so that you can gain access to the account, then see step (1)
  3. If you can update your email system to add an alias for the old user, such that a password reset arrives at your inbox, you should be able to log in as that departed user and perform updates.
  4. If your dmarcian account has multiple admin authorized users, dmarcian support can email 2 of them to request verification of an owner user update.  Once approval is received from those 2 sources, dmarcian support will manually update the owner user.
  5. The final option requires manual intercession by dmarcian.  Contact Support and we will require you to perform a specific DNS update to prove that you have control over the domains listed in the account; after verifying that change we will manually update the user for you.
